Bring your own key

Use your own provider keys through the router: your key stays yours, and the fee is a line you can see.

Use this page to route requests through your own provider keys and to see what the router charges for it. The router uses your key to call the provider; the provider bills you directly, and the model price is not added to your balance.

Store a provider key

A workspace can store its own provider keys. A provider key is a credential object of the workspace: it is never shown again after it is stored and never printed in a log.

Note Today our team adds, rotates and disables a key with you. The console shows which keys a workspace has; it does not edit them yet.

What a key cannot be

A provider key is used for your own workspace only. A consumer subscription (ChatGPT, Grok and the like) cannot stand in for a provider key, and a personal key cannot be rented out to others: the providers' terms cover your own use only.

Check whose key pays

The custody entry on each model of GET /v1/models says whose key pays the provider for that route (see Models).

Understand the request fee

The router charges a request fee on traffic that runs on your own key or your own model. The rule:

  • The fee is a separate line of the usage ledger, never folded into a price.
  • A free allowance of requests per month comes first. The allowance is a count over the sealed ledger for the calendar month in UTC, so it starts again each month and cannot be overspent by a retry.
  • A request counts once: a retried request is not charged twice.
  • Traffic on our own provider accounts is not offered yet: it opens with router credit. Today the router serves your own key or your own machine.
  • A trial plan carries no request fee.

The amounts, the allowance and the period are plan data. The usage page shows them before anything is charged, and the endpoints in Credits and usage show what was charged.

Sign in instead of pasting a key

Signing in to a provider instead of pasting a key is not available yet.
